Don Dunphy: Referee Lew Handler has a tough job on his hands tonight. Hasn’t touch gloves and it’s round 10 and the issue could be in the balance. Anthony with two left hooks on the chin. Backed away. Durelle missed a left over the head. Anthony boxes. Takes the left, a right, another right to the jaw by Durelle. And on the inside, it’s Anthony tapping a right hand to the head. Anthony pounds a right hand to the body. This Durelle a sentimental favorite of the crowd, taking two left hooks to the chin. The only knockdown in the fight was when Durelle claimed a low blow and went down, and was counted 8 over, and then got up.
Durelle puts a right hand to the chin, a left hand to jaw. He comes at Anthony; give the young New Yorker no rest. On the inside, it’s Anthony tapping a right to the head. Anthony fakes a left hand. Fakes again. Takes a light jab on the chin. Anthony put two left hooks to the chin, a jab on the nose. Durelle misses a right hand, and take a countering right on the jaw, a light tap to the head by Tony Anthony. Anthony fakes a left hand; he’s met with hard right uppercut to the jaw by Durelle. He fires a right to the body simultaneously. Anthony takes a left hook to the head after throwing his own right on the jaw, and drops a right hand to the head. Anthony fakes a left hand. Durelle comes at him again. Two minutes to go in the fight, now. Two minutes.
Durelle fakes a right hand, doesn’t throw it. Runs in a short jab. Durelle throws… left hook to the head, a right hand to the body thrown by Durelle. Anthony is trying to hold on again. And the referee gets them apart. Anthony takes a left hook to the chin. Durelle is coming on hard now. And boy this a real surprise in here. On the inside, it’s a right tap to the head by Durelle. He misses a left hand over head, and he takes two right tap to the jaw. Very light punches by Tony Anthony who got very little power left. Anthony takes a right to the chin that hurts him. Anthony is met by left hook to the jaw by Durelle. Durelle misses a left over the head, comes in hard, misses a right, misses a left. Throws a right uppercut, another right to the chin. He got Anthony staggered on the ropes. Anthony takes a left and a right to the jaw, another right to the jaw. Anthony is trying to stay in there. He’s rocking and reeling. Anthony takes a right to the chin, a left hook to the jaw, a right to the jaw by Durelle. Anthony is in bad shape. He misses… gets under a left, gets under a right. One minute to go in the fight. Durelle misses a right.
Boy! This is a corker. Durelle throws a left hook to the jaw, and Anthony is dead tired, wraps his arms around his man, and holds on. Anthony bleeding around the nose. Anthony takes a right to the jaw. He’s driven into the ropes again. Durelle tired himself. He’s misses a left hand. And there are 40 seconds left to go in the fight. Anthony backs across the ring. Anthony is… hard left, and misses a left over the head. Durelle comes at him and holds Anthony against the rope, and they’re both dead tired. And the referee asks Anthony if he wants to continue. And he does. He takes a left and a right to chin, a right to the jaw. Anthony wraps his arms around his man. Takes a right to the chin. Only seconds to go. Durelle misses a right to the head. We’ve got about 15 seconds to go in the fight, and Anthony is out on his feet, and our papers here are spewed with blood. Anthony takes a left hook to the chin by Durelle. As they go to close corners just above us again. And the referee comes over to get them apart. Seconds to go now. Anthony in real trouble, almost knockout, by this surprising Canadian who came back at him. Durelle fakes the left hand. Durelle drives a right hand to the body. And they’re the final bell of a wonderful fight.
